Great question. If you plan on keeping and eating your Shark catches one should consider that the vast majority of the legal size and species of these will weigh between 150 -300 lbs (54"-84"). Subjectively the leader would be in that weight strength class as well. These fish of course are perfertly fine tablefare. They of course must be landed via the beach and never on our pier.
Note as well that Ocean Crest Pier restricts the landing of any Sharks hooked while fishing from the pier to those 36" and under. These may be netted " Only on the Tee end of the pier" and returned to the resource unharmed. No others are allowed (No exceptions), gaffing these is illegal under current NC Marine Fishery regulation's. We do not allow any Sharks to become subject to mutulation by our patrons. Any angler caught attempting to land any Shark over our 36" maximun, using a gaff on one, or mutulating (injuring one by poking, stabbing jabbing or any other cutting action) will be removed from the property immediately (Day or Night), permanently and become the subject matter of NC Marine Fishery Enforcement Officers. It is your resonsibility as an individual angler knowing and abiding by our rules as well the Fishery Laws both State and Federal. You and your fishing privledges will benefit by doing so. Good Luck all!
